Career In Real Estate If you’re struggling with career choices and would like to take on something that could be right up your alley, why not think about going into real estate? Sure, by now everyone has heard that the real estate market isn’t great, and yet some people are still making good money in selling real estate and houses, and there are indications that the housing market is on its way out of its slump. The thing about working in real estate is that, if you do it right, you will succeed and enjoy what you do. The true real estate professionals know that it’s not about the houses, or the properties, or even the money, though money is an important aspect in the end. It’s about the relationships, building trust, giving value, and then having those people recommend you to other clients, people you may not ever have thought of as potential home buyers or sellers. So, what does it take to get into the industry? There are some specific things that have to fall into place. They are: You must be at least 18 years old You must pass a background check You must be at least a high school graduate You have to take a real estate course so you can pass the real estate exam. This is the hardest part, only because if you’re not really ready to do it then you may have problems memorizing the material. There are plenty of courses one can take that range anywhere from 30 to 90 hours of time, depending on your state or where you take the courses. There’s also a fee for the exam, and it’s different in each state. Once you have your license? At this point, you may feel you’re ready, but in some states, you have to be sponsored by a firm before you can begin marketing real estate. This is like an internship, where you learn the ropes on how real estate really goes, and if you’ve selected well, it could be an eye opening experience or a fun one. After that, or if that part isn’t needed where you are, it’s time to find a brokerage you can work for, which might be the same company. Now you’re finally on the inside. What this now means is that it’s all up to you to decide how successful you want to be. You’ll learn how to work with other agents, since usually there’s an agent for the seller as well as for the buyer. You’ll learn how to work with loan agents, contractors, designers, etc. You’ll get to see the inside of many houses and learn their styles and problems. And those houses can range from tens of thousands up to millions if you live in certain areas, which can be exciting. And, of course, the more expensive the house, the more your commission for helping to get it either sold or bought. Many people will start off in real estate part time, so they don’t have to totally rely on going it alone until they feel comfortable. The best real estate agents are engaging and friendly, but most of all they listen to the needs of their clients and try to fit them into their dreams without crushing their budgets. As with any other business, if you take care of your client, your client will inadvertently help you, which could make you a lot of money. And if you’re good,… you might end up owning one of those big expensive houses you sell others. If you’re looking for a career where, in the long run, it’s up to you to decide just how successful you can be, real estate might be for you.
